17-year-old Goulburn resident and student, Emily Craig has tied equal first in the State with her ATAR in Film and Media.
Emily completed the Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC) last year at TAFE NSW Goulburn and has now been accepted into a Double Degree in International Relations and Arts with a focus on languages and relationships between countries.
Used to being independent and mature beyond her years after a student exchange, Emily was attracted to a different way of learning for the HSC.
“I went on a Rotary student exchange to France in 2015 for a full year when I was 15-years-old and got a real taste for the French culture and language. I also met a lot of Latin American people and fell in love with their culture as well,” says Emily.
“I got back from my exchange and I had the option of returning to school or going to TAFE but I was really attracted to an adult learning environment,” she said.
On receiving the news that she was equal first: “I communicated in foghorn and screamed up the hallway to Mum. I wasn’t expecting it; I was ecstatic,” says Emily.
Leon Williamson, Head Teacher at TAFE NSW Goulburn was very impressed with Emily’s maturity and dedication to learning.
“Emily performed very well in the adult learning environment,” says Leon.
“She responded positively to the guidance and support offered by her teachers. Emily is the perfect student for independent learners - she seized any opportunity to pursue her own areas of interest in the TPC .course,” says Leon.
Emily also received a Dean Scholarship to the University of Wollongong.
