TAFE Illawarra and Bega Cheese continue to have a strategic alliance to train and develop the company's production workers.

The partnership has been in operation for over ten years, in which time hundreds of Bega Cheese employees have been trained. Training for production staff at Bega has been in the Food Processing Certificates Level 3 and Level 4.

Literacy support for these employees is also provided by the Institute's General Education section at Bega. In addition, training has also been conducted for Transport and Distribution and Administration staff. All of these staff has been trained on-the-job under the Australian Traineeship Training Program. New employees and school leavers employed by the company are now able to progress to an Existing Worker Traineeship and permanency as they progress through the training. The training has also allowed progression within the company, for those staff who had no previous training.
