The ongoing partnership forged between TAFE Illawarra and Volvo Bus Australia has resulted in the inception of the Volvo Bus Australia Community Scholarship.

Volvo Bus Australia approached TAFE Illawarra to enhance student training and vocational outcomes within the transport industry.

The Volvo Bus Community Scholarship provides two Institute students with $1,500 each and four weeks work experience at the Volvo Bus Australia Chullora site.

General Manager for Volvo Bus Australia, Mr David Mead said, "Volvo Bus Australia has taken an active role in introducing students to the public transport industry and is proactive in providing opportunities for those studying to experience the corporate environment prior to completion of studies.

The TAFE - VOLVO partnership has also seen Institute staff train over 400 mechanics in a two year period which in turn has provided great opportunities for our trainers to gain more experience and exposure to new machinery and commercial opportunities.
