How do I access the wireless network?

As a current student or staff member with your own laptop/wireless device, you can access the wireless internet service at all libraries throughout the Illawarra Institute. You must use your current DEC TAFE username and password. Contact your library for assistance.

How do I create a reference list or bibliography for my assignment?

For help in compiling a bibliography, simply ask your librarian or refer to our Bibliographies Guide.

If you’re a Tertiary Preparation Certificate student, you should use the TPC Referencing Style Manual.

If you’re a TAFE NSW Higher Education student, you should use the Student’s basic guide to bibliographies and referencing: Harvard Style.

For online assistance, you can use the Sydney Institute Libraries' Interactive Guide to Bibliographies - simple software designed to provide you with ready to use citations for your bibliography.

The University of Wollongong provides a number of guides to Referencing and Citing Sources.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics provides a detailed Guide to Citing ABS Sources.

How do I improve my Internet skills?

Protecting Yourself Online: what everyone needs to know - information and advice from the Australian Government.

SCAMwatch  - SCAMwatch is an Australian Government website which provides information to consumers and small businesses about how to recognise, avoid and report scams. It includes information about online and identity theft scams.

How do I improve my computer skills?

TLN New User Tutorial - this short tutorial is designed to help people who have never used a computer before.

BBC Absolute Beginners' Guide to using your computer - provides you with guides to using the mouse, computer components, posture, the keyboard, scrolling and using windows.

BBC Computer Tutor - basic keyboard and mouse skills - allow an hour for this tutorial. 

Peter's Online Typing Course - a set of free online typing lessons and typing exercises for beginning typists.

How do I improve my study skills?

You can access a large range of books, DVDs and videos covering topics such as communication skills, essay writing, public speaking, report writing, stress management and time management
