Trade Schools

Would you like to gain valuable work skills and earn money while you complete your Higher School Certificate?

Trades schools are an initiative of the NSW Government to help you find work sooner.

Trade schools give you the opportunity to:

  • combine your HSC studies with vocational training in a supportive school and TAFE environment
  • gain valuable work skills and experience
  • earn while you learn
  • obtain nationally recognised skills and qualifications
  • work in industries with strong career prospects
  • gain a head start in your career
  • potentially earn high wages
  • use your qualifications as a pathway or credit towards further study
  • remain at your home school whilst undertaking trade courses at Wollongong or Shellharbour Campuses.

What are Trade Schools?

In order to offer you more study choices while you're at school, TAFE Illawarra has partnered up with local schools and industry to create the Wollongong and Shellharbour Trade Schools.

Thanks to the Trade Schools you can choose to study from a range of vocational training options as part of your HSC.  You may also choose to do a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship as part of your studies.

Shellharbour Trade School specialises in:

    •      Nursing

    •      Automotive.

Wollongong Trade School specialises in:

    •      Nursing

    •      Metal and Engineering

    •      Construction (Carpentry, Shopfitting and Bricklaying).

These schools may also offer other vocational areas.
