If you are under 17 years of age and thinking of leaving school, a new law was introduced in January 2010 that may affect you.
As of January 2010, a new law was introduced in NSW which requires all students to remain in school until Year 10.
After completing Year 10, young people are required to continue in full-time education, training, paid employment or a combination of these until at least the age of 17 years.
If you are 15 or over, and under 17 and wish to leave school and enrol at TAFE, you will need to have either completed Year 10 or have special permission from school and TAFE to complete a Year 10 equivalent at TAFE.
For further information on the process for applying to a complete Year 10 equivalent at TAFE, contact your High School Principal.
