For individuals

Traineeships and apprenticeships combine work and structured training. They include:

  • Paid employment under an award or enterprise agreement
  • A training contract signed by both the employer and trainee and registered with the NSW Department of Education and Training [DET] State Training Services.
  • A training program delivered by TAFE NSW - Illawarra Institute that leads to a nationally recognised qualification at Certificate II, III or IV level or in some cases Diploma.

Pre Employment / Pre Apprenticeship Courses

If you are interested in a particular area of study but are having difficulty in securing an Apprenticeship or Traineeship you may consider a Pre employment / Pre apprenticeship course. These courses allow you to undertake off-the-job training where you will gain basic skills relating to the industry chosen. These skills can often assist in securing an apprenticeship or traineeship. You will gain Recognition for the units of competence that you have successfully completed.
