Manildra Group Shoalhaven Starches

TAFE NSW - Illawarra Institute and the Manildra Group Shoalhaven Starches Pty Ltd have forged a strong working relationship built over a decade of coordinating and delivering a wide range of responsive and flexible training solutions.

In recent years this alliance has led to many successful training initiatives and outcomes including the formalisation of a Training Patnership Manager (TPM) model. This partnership involved the placement of a TAFE NSW Training Partnership Manager onsite at Manildra's Shoalhaven Mill, Bomaderry, two days per week.

The TPM coordinated the organisation's onsite training needs in conjunction with the Illawarra Institute's Nowra based Education & Training Consultant and led to well over 150 staff successfully completing Existing Worker Traineeships in food processing, warehousing and distribution, plant operations and a large number of customised short courses including electical isolation and lockout procedures for maintenance fitters. The program included the development of a standard operating procedure relating to workplace procedural requirements. These were mapped against the WorkCover guidelines and Australian Standards to ensure the training outcomes assisted the organisation in meeting its workplace safety obligations.
