Dunn & Lewis Foundation - Ulladulla Events Management Program

The Dunn and Lewis Foundation is an initiative of the Ulladulla community and arose in the aftermath of the Bali bombings of October 2002, which resulted in the tragic death of two young local men Craig Dunn and Danny Lewis.

In response to this very sad event many of Craig and Danny's friends and family members have cooperated in the development of a youth foundation that aims to improve the quality of life and to increase the opportunities for young people aged between five and twenty-five years living in the Ulladulla area. This foundation is currently receiving significant national media attention (mainly via Channel Seven's Angry Anderson "Challenge" program) and substantial financial support from high profile businesses men (eg Dick Smith), local businesses and community members.

Throughout 2007 representatives from the Nowra/Ulladulla Business Unit and Teaching and Outreach sections have been meeting with Gayle Dunn the Foundation's Director to discuss the training needs of the `Dunn Lewis Foundation' and to consider how TAFE NSW - Illawarra Institute can be involved at a local level. As a result, a number of training initiatives have stemmed from these meetings including an18 week DET funded Strategic Skills Program in Events Management Training, which commenced earlier this semester. Currently 14 Ulladulla youth are enrolled in the program providing a flexible hands-on training approach by incorporating the planning of events and activities under the auspice of the Dunn Lewis Foundation.
