How will I be assessed?

Obtaining the evidence

To demonstrate what you know and can do, you will need to present `evidence' as part of an overall assessment process that will meet the elements of the competency. This evidence might include presenting a portfolio of evidence, submitting examples of your work, taking an oral or written challenge activity, being observed in an actual workplace or classroom setting, or some combination of these options. Remember, you already know and can do a lot.

Types of Evidence

The evidence used in a Recognition application can include anything that will demonstrate that the candidate meets the competency. Evidence can include any combination of the following:

Audio Visual

Videos, audio tapes, CDs to demonstrate communication, customer service or work skills

Certificates

Formal and informal qualifications including certificates, diplomas, degrees, statements of results, courses completed at work, etc

Diary/journal

A diary or journal to record relevant activities at home, in paid and unpaid work or in your spare time

Documents

Documents that describe work duties, photos of work, other relevant paperwork or what you have done in your life

Email evidence

Email communications that highlight assistance provided, work activities or samples of work

Letters of evidence

Letters of reference from employers, people you have worked with (paid and unpaid work), community groups

Portfolio

Work samples that may include drawings, pictures / photographs, reports, articles etc

Records of workplace activities

Notes or reports about work activities and completed worksheets

Resume / work history

A resume listing work history and outlining key responsibilities and summary of qualifications. A statement of duties may be useful too

Telephone verification

A contact name to be contacted by phone to assist verification of evidence / document

Evidence that is older than three years should be supported by more up-to-date evidence of continued application.

Challenge activity

If you are unable to provide documentary evidence that satisfies you can competently perform the task taught in the competency, then you may be given the opportunity to display your skill in a challenge activity. The activity will be similar to that delivered in class. The challenge activity will relate to the elements of the competency.

You may be able to combine your method of Recognition assessment by providing documents for part of the competency and doing a challenge activity for the rest. If you choose to be tested by portfolio, and the portfolio is not adequate to demonstrate competence, then you may be given an opportunity to undertake a challenge activity.

How long will it take to assess my application?

You should receive written notification within three (3) weeks of lodging your application. The time taken to process applications will vary (especially at peak enrolment periods) and you should be notified by your assessor of any variation to the time frame.

A qualified assessor will review your application. The assessor will be looking for evidence that is relevant, valid, reliable, authentic, current and sufficient. Your evidence must demonstrate that your knowledge and skills match the elements of the competency for which you have applied for Recognition.
