Selection Process

How are students selected for TVET courses?

Students are offered places in courses on the basis of satisfying the following criteria:

  • level of ability including pre-requisite skills which indicates a capacity to succeed in the course
  • application to studies, maturity and suitability for an adult learning environment
  • high level of interest in the proposed course demonstrated through, for example, interests or commitment to completing the course
  • a good school attendance record

Students are encouraged to attach a copy of their most recent school report to their application to assist the selection process for high demand courses.

Students with Disabilities

Are students with a disability able to apply for TVET courses?

Students with a disability are encouraged to participate in TVET. There are two options available for students with a disability, (i) placement in a discrete class or (ii) integration into a mainstream TVET group. To be considered as a student with a disability, the school must complete a Priority Ranking Form on behalf of the student. (Guidelines for Course Selection and Placement - Student with a Disability)

To enable the Region to manage funding submissions submitted on behalf of students with a disability, the students are asked to attach the Priority Ranking Form to their application form before submitting it to the Institute.

Expression of Interest to Undertake a TVET Course Form

The Expression of Interest to Undertake a TVET Course form is provided for government, catholic and independent school students. If you are applying to continue in 2009 in the same course you were studying in 2008, eg the 2nd year of the Accounting; Hospitality; Information Technology; Metal & Engineering; and Tourism etc courses, this needs to be indicated on the Expression of Interest form.

Expression of Interest to Undertake a TVET Course form for all School Students

We recommend that you seek advice from your School Principal before submitting an Expression of Interest to the Institute.
