How do I use eResources?

  1. Select a relevant database below OR choose a Subject Guide and click on the Databases tab on that guide.
  2. Log in using either your DEC TAFE username and password or a local password.
  3. Enter your search terms
  4. Use the Help function within each database, ask your local library staff for advice or consult the user guides and tutorials on this page.
  5. Set up an alert for new content in selected databases - use the guides below.

What is a local password?

  • Local passwords are required for local campus or Illawarra only eResource subscriptions. Look for titles marked with an asterisk *.
  • Please contact your library for more information or use the Passwords request form.
  • Staff can also obtain local passwords from the staff intranet.
  • OTEN students - please contact your local library for passwords to the databases marked ^.

Building Code of Australia Illustrated * BCA Illustrated is an online version of the Building Code of Australia (BCA), with over 3000 illustrations and 15,000 knowledge-base links. Access: Available at Wollongong campus only - contact library for password. User guide
Business Source Premier Full text articles covering marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance and economics. (EBSCOHost) User guide
Chemwatch Provides access to ChemGold III, which includes MSDS and chemical databases. Access: contact your local campus library for password. User guide

Culinary Arts Includes 150 of the major cooking and nutrition magazines. Includes thousands of searchable recipes, restaurant reviews, and industry information. (Gale) User guide
eBooks on ESBSCOhost Formerly NetLibrary. Access to eBooks in a range of subject areas, particularly IT and business management. You can search for electronic versions of books by subject area and read them online. Can be searched in combination with EBSCOhost databases.

Montie Safetycare videos Access to all OHS videos produced by Safetycare Australia. National Construction Code ^ The National Construction Code is a uniform set of technical provisions for the design and construction of buildings and other structures throughout Australia. Includes Housing Provisions, Building Code of Australia (BCA) and the Plumbing Code of Australia. Please note that we have a single user licence only, so users should log off when they are finished.

Sydney Morning Herald Digital Edition * Sydney Morning Herald Digital Edition is a digital replica of the print newspaper published from Monday to Sunday, with 2 weeks’ worth of editions available at all times. TAFE NSW Exam Papers Access to past TAFE NSW examination papers. Coverage: mid year 2006 - end year 2011. Current students and staff only.  
TVNews TV News indexes Australian television news, current affairs and selected documentaries from the free-to-air networks with links to the digitised video content in a compressed format. Updated daily. (Informit) TV News - getting started tutorial User guide
vLearn Digital Videos Educational videos are streamed to your computer. See the videos and descriptions here.

There are no restrictions on the number of views or number of users that can view the video at one time. The vLearn Player will detect whether you have the current version of Microsoft Silverlight and, if not present, provide a link to download and install.
Teachers can access program support notes for individual titles via the Illawarra staff Intranet.
