Catalogue search tips

As you search the TAFE NSW catalogue, here are a few things to keep in mind.

• You will be searching the catalogue of all TAFE NSW libraries, but the items available at your selected library will be easy to find as they are marked with a red tick.  
• To narrow your search, select to search HERE from the library dropdown list.
• Check out the library catalogue user guide for more information or ask library staff for help.
• As a student or staff member, you can use your TAFEcard to borrow in person from any of TAFE NSW library.
• You can also ask your library staff to request an inter-library loan for you. This will take up to a week, so plan ahead!

Catalogue features include:

Advanced Search - allows searching using Boolean operators, and lets you limit the search by: library, location on the shelves, item format (e.g. DVD) and publication year.  

Browse Search - allows you to browse a keyword by author, title, subject, series or periodical title. Similar keywords are included in the display list.

Find It Fast - contains pre-defined searches for items with specific formats (e.g. DVD, eBooks) and/or specific information  (e.g. Australian Literature, English as a Second Language).

The Temp List - allows you to create a temporary bibliography of items - click in the Temp List box next to each item. If you login to My Account first, you can save the Temp List for future access.

My Account - Your user account allows you to: see the items you currently have out, view the status of any holds you have placed, see any fines or other blocks on your library account, or renew any items that are not overdue or have not been renewed more than twice. 

Tweets and RSS feeds - You can share a link to any library item on Twitter, from an item's information page, or use the RSS feed to keep up to date with the latest resources in your subject area. 

Did you know you can renew your loans online via the catalogue?

• Simply log in to the catalogue using your TAFEcard barcode number and PIN. Try the Renew Your Loans box on this page. 
•  If you don't already have a PIN, ask library staff to provide you with one.
• Remember that you can only renew loans on or before the due date and if no one has placed your item on hold.
• Be sure to log out when you are finished.

Did you know you can ask for an inter-library loan?

• If there is an item you would like to borrow from another TAFE library, you can ask your local campus library to order it in for you.
• The inter-library loan service is available only to TAFE NSW students and staff and is free to use.
• Contact your library for more information or use the interlibrary loan request form.
• Conditions apply (e.g. for course related items only).

Did you know you can join and borrow from non-TAFE libraries?

• You can join your local public library for free and enjoy the many services they offer, including weekend opening hours.
• You can also become a reciprocal borrower at the University of Wollongong Library. Ask your library staff for more information, as fees and conditions apply.
