How to access the internet from campus computers
In order to access the internet from campus computers, you must use your DEC TAFE username and password. These are usually provided when you enrol. Customer Service Centre staff or campus library staff will assist you if you do not have this information. Students must abide by the library computers and internet conditions of use.
Your DEC TAFE user name and password provides access to:
- The internet on campus - from a student computer or your own wireless laptop
- Your TAFE student record
- Your TAFE email account

How to access the internet from personal laptops or mobile devices
Access to the Illawarra Institute wireless network (II-TAFE) is available to all current TAFE NSW students and staff. Access is available in all libraries and across the Wollongong Campus. Please note that II-TAFE access is not available to the general public. You must use your current DEC TAFE username and password and manually configure your device using one of the guides below.
Requirements: To access Il-TAFE, you will need a properly configured 802.11a/b/g/n (Wi-Fi) compatible laptop computer or mobile device that must be able to perform captive portal authentication and use a proxy username and password. You will need to manually configure your mobile device to be able to join the II-TAFE wireless network. Setup instructions are available below.
Most new laptops and handheld wireless devices come with in-built 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi support. You can also purchase a wireless network interface card and install it into an existing laptop. Android devices require version 4.0 or above - you cannot connect with older versions.
These are general requirements only and ICTS at Illawarra Institute provides no guarantee that a particular model or type of device will necessarily work with the II-TAFE wireless network.
